Having duplicate copies of your important files saved in a remote location keeps it safe in case anything goes badly wrong with your computer such as:

- Computer crashes – always happen when you least need it, and can lead to data loss.
- Virus Infection – aggressive malicious viruses can corrupt files and disable computers.
- Hard drive failure - hard drives have a finite lifetime and can fail suddenly and without warning.
- Physical computer damage – Laptops are sensitive and are easily damaged if dropped or have drinks spilled over them.
- Theft – computers are sought after by thieves and cannot always be kept secure whilst travelling.

Most computers today come with the facility to backup your files locally, to an external and to the various online Cloud vendors such as Dropbox, Box.com, Google Drive and Microsoft's One Drive. Many of these Cloud vendors offer free accounts with limited storage for home users.


Keeping your files safe:
- Schedule a backup eveytime you do important work.
- If using External or Pen Drives keep them in a different location when finished.
- Use online Backups if possible. ( This will guarantee the safety of your important Files. )
- Don't Drink liquids near computer equipment.
- Keep Antivirus software up to date and carryout regular scans on you Computer and Pen/External Drives.
